Holovast in Boston and Pittsburgh: GBIP AI Enhanced Manufacturing Mission, USA
Highlights from the Innovate UK GBIP: AI Enhanced Manufacturing mission, from the Manufacturing IT/OT Summit and MIT in Boston to Mill 19 and the ARM Institute in Pittsburgh.
Boston and Pittsburgh, USA - March 2026: HOLOVAST Ltd completed the in-market phase of Innovate UK's Global Business Innovation Programme (GBIP): AI Enhanced Manufacturing, joining the UK delegation across Boston and Pittsburgh from 22 to 27 March 2026.
The mission opened in Boston with two days at the Manufacturing IT/OT Summit at Encore Boston Harbor, followed by a briefing at the British Consulate General with Consul General David Clay, a presentation from the Massachusetts Center for Advanced Manufacturing, and sessions with MIT's Initiative for New Manufacturing and CSAIL, MIT's computer science and AI laboratory.
In Pittsburgh, a centrepiece was Mill 19 at Hazelwood Green, the former steel mill reborn as an advanced manufacturing campus. The site houses Carnegie Mellon University's manufacturing research facilities and the ARM (Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing) Institute, and the contrast between the preserved mill structure and what now runs inside it captures where the industry is heading.
Inside the labs, the delegation saw collaborative robotics, machine tending, and automation research up close, the same class of physical work HOLOVAST governs on the shop floor. The second day moved through Pittsburgh's startup ecosystem, from the Robotics Factory and the Neighborhood 91 additive manufacturing campus to Innovation Works and the Pittsburgh Robotics Network, with the delegation pitching to local advanced manufacturing companies at the closing business exchange.
The cohort was welcomed to the city by Pittsburgh Mayor Corey O'Connor, alongside regional development partners who briefed the delegation on the region's manufacturing and robotics ecosystem.
